A Day at Camp
Life at Camp Lavender follows a steady rhythm that gives campers room to breathe, try things, and feel supported. We build each day with enough structure to feel safe, but enough flexibility for campers to explore what interests them and move at their own pace. Throughout the day, campers move between small-group activities, all-camp moments, workshops, rest time, and the kind of unplanned exploration that makes camp feel alive. Along the way, they build real relationships with staff and other campers through shared routines, inside jokes, and trying new things together.

Our Routines
Morning
Each day begins with shared meals and cabin check-ins before we move into morning programs and activities. Campers rotate between two morning programs, which range each year but often include tie-dye, crafts, music workshops, queer history discussions, leadership activities, and comprehensive sex-ed led by trained facilitators. These give everyone a chance to deepen learning, build community, and explore different sides of themselves over time.
Afternoon
Afternoons offer a mix of free time and structured programming, like swimming, small-group workshops, and team games. Campers can choose sessions that fit their interests, helping them discover new passions while connecting with peers who share similar experiences and values.
Evening
Evenings bring the whole camp community together for cozy and celebratory events: campfires and song nights, therapy dog visits, movie nights, talent shows, and the Camp Dance, where laughter and joy fill the air.
Nighttime
After evening activities, campers wind down with their cabins through quiet rituals that help them settle and feel grounded. These can include light crafts, reading time, stargazing, or gentle conversations with peers and counselors. Lights-out is consistent and predictable, giving campers a chance to rest, reset, and prepare for the next day with a sense of comfort and stability.

Camper Wellbeing
Our staff pay close attention to camper safety and emotional well-being. Staff are available to support campers through homesickness, social challenges, or moments of overwhelm, always approaching care through a lens of respect, consent, and community care. We prioritize clear communication, accessible routines, and staff who can respond to youth concerns with calm and care. We understand that safety isn’t always built through rigid rules, and must also include trust, affirmation, and adults who model accountability.

Community
At Camp Lavender, community is at the heart of everything we do. Liberation, for us, means young people have the knowledge and space to shape their own futures. Community is where they practice that power: sharing resources, naming their needs, supporting each other, and imagining new ways of living together. Camp becomes a rehearsal space for the world queer and trans youth deserve. Each camper leaves with new friends, cherished memories, and the knowledge that they belong, not just at camp, but in the wider world we’re building together.
If you have questions about accessibility, meals, or support needs, our team is always happy to talk through what to expect.
